A Brief Thought About Millennials and Today's Hopeless Age
I was browsing the r/millennials subreddit today for a brief moment and enjoyed some nostalgic memories, and thought some jokes were funny.
However alot of other posts went into dread about the world they used to know/grew up in vs the world they live in now-and, being a millennial myself, I can't disagree entirely...
It's a familiar feeling for sure. The more I thought about what they were saying (rent, jobs, over commercialism ect) it made me more and more despondent and I felt myself in a familiar fog of hopelessness.
I stopped browsing.
When I thought about the interaction again after work, I realized for a moment:
Jesus experienced (to a degree) a similar situation.
As God The Father, He created the heavens and the earth and it was very good!
Can you imagine the time between young humanity and God and how good it was or how fresh it must have been? Created for good works and for work to be satisfying...
And then the fall.
All the freshness soured, possibilities turned limited, work turned to toil and sweat and it continued to sour up until the flood.
I think sometimes we can get so fixated on claiming our experience of this day is unique, no one able to sympathize with our plight of this now turned sour digital age...
Jesus knows how it feels for the world to sour, for dreams of plans and wonder to darken, for something new to become lackluster and fake...
He's seen kingdoms rise and fall, economy turn left right and sideways, and He knows how disheartened we can become in such an age.
And because He knows how this all is, He invites us to have a seat with Him, share any concerns or feelings; and asks us to listen to the One who is kind and has seen this happen before so He may encourage us- so we don't lose hope.
Keep your lanterns lit.
